It’s Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Paczki Day!
TITLE: “Mardi Gras”
ARTIST: Alfred Gockel
DATE: 2005
WHY WE CHOSE IT: Southerners may be feasting on sugary king cakes, but in the metro Detroit area, today is celebrated as Paczki Day, a time to enjoy delicious cream and jelly-filled donuts. These sweet, lard-filled treats are the traditional fare of Mardi Gras (French for “Fat Tuesday”), the last chance for Catholics to indulge before fasting for Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday.
