TITLE: “Campbell’s Soup Cans”
ARTIST: Andy Warhol
DATE: 1962
WHY WE CHOSE IT: On this day in 1962, Ferus Gallery (Los Angeles) was the first to exhibit pop artist Andy Warhol’s now-famous set of 32 Campbell’s soup cans. The prints were identical, except for the flavors inscribed on the can labels. The set was displayed in a single line across the gallery, suggestive of a grocery shelf.

TITLE: “Still-Life with Cheese”
ARTIST: Pablo Picasso
DATE: 1944
WHY WE CHOSE IT: Grab some crackers — January 20 is National Cheese Lover’s Day! Yes it’s cheesy, but any way you slice it, today celebrates feta, mozzarella, Swiss, cheddar and all of the 900 other cheeses available for consumption. We’re wondering if Picasso’s favorite kind was blue cheese?
